Laura Callaghan Grooms, Director of Hand on Heart Arts, is a project manager, creative consultant, music education specialist, composer and artist. In her time as Director of HOHA, Laura has had the privilege of acting as Project Manager for a range of world music education programmes on behalf of Musiko Musika (a National Portfolio Organisation for Arts Council England); Project Manager of Orchestra ONE for Kent Music (the “Orchestra of New Experiences” is an accessible, inclusive youth orchestra designed for the 21st which recently won a Medway Design and Culture Award and was nominated for the national Music Expo Music Teacher Awards); Business Consultant for Epple Bay Ceramics; quality assurance moderator for Soundhub (Music Education Hub for Kent); Education Director for the Deal Festival of Music and the Art; and large- scale event and conference management for Surrey Music Hub / Surrey Arts (Surrey County Council), and project management of the county-wide Surrey Carers Choirs for carers of those with dementia. She has just finished working as the Project Manager for the “Universe of Sound” digital installation & education programme (Canterbury and Birmingham) for the Philharmonia Orchestra, as the the interim Project Manager and Education Manager for the Philharmonia Orchestra’s iOrchestra project in the South West of England. Laura has just been assigned the role of Musical Director for Surrey Music Hub’s new SEN/D youth orchestra, called U.P - the Orchestra of Unlimited Potential, which begins in November 2014 and will perform at the Royal Albert Hall in May 2015.
Since 2005 she has been working in music and arts education, which has included work for the Philharmonia Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Deal Festival of Music & the Arts, Kent Music, Soundhub, Surrey Music Hub, The Mighty Creatives, Musiko Musika, Brighton & Hove Music & Arts, and many more. Laura is currently the Musical Director (conductor / creative lead) for Orchestra of Unlimited Potential in Surrey - an orchestra for young musicians with disabilities and Special Needs.
